  • How do I add our tourney to the calendar?

  • How do I add our tourney flyer and/or registration flyer to the tourney listing?

  • How long does it take after I submit my tourney before it shows up on the calendar?

    • Depending on our workload, anywhere from 1 to 24 hrs. That is our goal.  It has taken longer on occasion. For example, If it seems like it is taking to long, please send us an e-mail at wrestling@ncyw.com, and we will find out what happened to it.
  • Why do you have this website?

    • The main goal of this website is to promote youth wrestling.
    •

  • Why did you create it?

    • We started this website because we saw that there were lots of tourneys that we didn't know about, often times scheduled for the same day as nearby tourneys.  This resulted in low attendance at both tourneys, which hurts each of the local clubs.  This in turn hurts the kids, because the clubs don't have the resources they need to support and grow the sport.  We thought that if we could create  a central location to list all these tourneys, we could provide a service to all the youth clubs, to other parents, and do what we can to promote youth wrestling.
  • Does it cost our club money to list our tourneys?

    • No!  Our goal is to promote youth wrestling, and grow the sport.  All the services we offer are free.
  • This must take a lot of time and effort, not to mention the expense of maintaining a website. Why would you do all this for free?

    • We are passionate about youth wrestling, and the benefits we think it provides to the kids that participate in it.  We truly believe that there is no other sport that can provide the benefits, values, and life lessons like wrestling can.  A few years after we started this website, one of the local clubs in our area (Thank you, Brookings!), offered to help defray the costs.  That allowed us to enhance our webhosting services and make some other improvements.
  • Our club thinks this site is great! How can we help?

    • If your club thinks this site provides a service and would like to contribute, feel free to send a donation to:
North Central Youth Wrestling - NCYW.COM
    PO Box 581
    Brookings, SD  57006
Unless you prefer to remain anonymous, we will also list your club as one of our sponsors on our main page.
  • What other ways can we help?

    • Help spread the word to other clubs about our website. The more clubs that list their tourneys, the more all clubs benefit. Also, tell us your ideas on how we can help you, what information would be helpful, etc.!  If you have suggestions on anything else that might be of service to the wrestling community, please let us know.

  • What rules and format do the tourneys in South Dakota have?

    • Most folkstyle tourneys follow the standard high school rules.  The time periods consist of (2)  two minute periods, both starting neutral (standing).
  • Which District are we in? Where do we go to District?

    • You can find out which District you are in by clicking on the Youth Wrestling Clubs link on the main page.  There is also a map link at the top you can click on to see how the boundaries are drawn.

  • We live in District x, but my child's wrestling team is in District y.  Where do we go to Districts?

    • You wrestle with the club you practice with. So if they go to District y, you go to District y.

  • What major organizations are involved in youth wrestling in South Dakota?

    • There are three major organizations: SDWCA (South Dakota Wrestling Coaches Association), AAU, and USA Wrestling.
  • Do we need to belong to the AAU or USA wrestling to participate in an upcoming tourney?

    • Most youth tourneys held by clubs are held and sponsored by that club.  They will not require membership in the AAU or USA wrestling.  This also means that they are not sanctioned by AAU or USA wrestling, and don't need to follow their requirements or provide insurance.  We attempt to provide the AAU/USA requirements on our tourney listings, but we recommend you check with the club sponsoring the event if you are not sure.  For the SDWCA district, region, and state tourneys, you will need an AAU membership.  For the USA state tourney, you will need a USA wrestling card.

  • Where do we find info about the district/region/state tourney?

    • We post all info we get under the tourney listing as soon as we receive it.   If you have a question that isn't answered there, the first place to start is the coach of the club where your child practices. You also can check the forum to see if someone has already answered it.  If not, post your question there and most likely someone will answer it for you.
  • Who decides how the district/region/state tourneys are run, where they're held, etc. ?

    • These tourneys are organized by the SDWCA (South Dakota Wrestling Coaches Association). They have an annual meeting over the summer and make the decisions for the following wrestling season.
  • Who is on the board of the SDWCA?

    • Andy Tate, John Gilman, Bob Hirsch, Joe Meyer, Bob Johnson, Brian Moser, Steve Keszler, Bill Kaiser, Dan Swatek, Mark Murren, Dan McCarty (may not current)
  •  How do I get AAU cards ?

    • Some clubs buy their members cards, or order them for them.
    • If your club does not, the process is below:
    • The procedure to process your club orders and applications are as follows:

      1.  You will need a credit card
      2.  You will need to know your 2008 member number and Club code.
      3.  If you do not have these numbers I can assist you in obtaining these or for immediate attention call Jackie at 407-934-7200.

Sanctions will still be processed through my office.

How to get birth certificate certified and stamped coaches cards:

After you have processed your cards:

      Arlyn Wohlleber
      Box 335
      Hulett, WY 82720

Please include proper payment along with order:

In the past I have forwarded $2.00 from every card order to the SDWCA--this is a fee that you will no longer pay online--so if you would please include $2.00 per card for the SDWCA it would be appreciated.

If you have any questions, or need to be walked through the process of registering online--I will be glad to help.  307-290-1073--I'm generally home fulltime most Friday's, Saturday's and Sunday's.
